RobertsDay Perth is playing host to UK health and streets specialist Lucy Saunders 11th-13th May 2020, for the Healthy Streets Foundation Course.
For an introduction on the healthy streets approach, check out more on the Transport for London materials online here, including overview presentations and even the Healthy Streets Check for Designers. The Check is a handy spreadsheet that we are already testing on various projects and it is proving very useful. It has 31 objective design metrics and produces a performance score for a street segment, informing designers and decision makers on where to make changes to improve the likelihood of people walking and cycling, focusing on design elements that would otherwise be missed using the standard Austroads guidance approach. The 31 metrics cleverly contribute toward 10 easily understood indicators, which can then be cross-checked with surveys of street users using simple language – eg. is the street too noisy? Are you comfortable walking here? Etc.
This course is the foundation practitioner course that will provide a comprehensive introduction from UK expert Lucy Saunders to the Healthy Streets approach. On completion, participants will be accredited and eligible to join the register of Healthy Streets practitioners.
Only 20 spots available. Course cost is $1,250 incl. GST. Meals and light refreshments for full 3 days included. On completion, participants will be accredited and eligible to join the register of Healthy Streets practitioners. Refer below to the course flyer for more information.
Hope you can join Lucy and us and together we can collectively work toward successfully applying the healthy streets approach for more street design projects (both new and retrofits) for the benefit of our public here in Australia. The course is aimed at both public Officers and private practitioners in transport, planning, urban design, civil engineering or landscape architecture and will work best when there’s a good mix!
