A Place Strategy for Hibernian Place was developed to integrate the buildings and central public plaza with Perth’s east end neighbourhood; a unique ‘historic heart’ with the city’s highest concentration of tourism accommodation and heritage buildings.
Employing an evidence-based placemaking approach, the rituals, influencers and cultural character of the East End were mapped and analysed to identify opportunities for the new precinct in the neighbourhood. This intelligence informed a vision, place strategy, competitive positioning and leasing approach.
The process identified that the East End lacked convenience and a genuinely welcoming place that that provides a local atmosphere for residents and visitors after hours. The strategy guided future tenure, audience attraction, and plans for activation, events, partnerships, public art, place branding and management; together delivering on the vision and overall place experience.
As well as the new luxury Westin hotel and Bodhi J Spa, Hibernian Place comprises a successful mix of hospitality food and beverage operators, including Garum and Goodie Two’s whisky bar nightclub, and Uber’s Perth headquarters.
Hibernian Place and Westin Perth has been awarded several industry awards, including the prestigious 2018 UDIA (WA) Russel Perry Award for Urban Development Excellence and UDIA Excellence in Retail, Commercial or Mixed use Development.
